2010 BMW 5-series Gran Turismo - Drives Well, but It Isn’t Particularly fun

2010 BMW 5-series Gran Turismo - Drive Well: 2010 BMW 5-series Gran Turismo - Drive Well, But It Is not Particularly Fun.When the car arrives in the U.S., the 5-series GT powertrain lineup will be entirely turbocharged, with a 302-hp six-cylinder powering the 535i. The 400-horse twin-turbo V-8 as found in the X6 and 7-series will be found under the hoods of cars with a 550i badge on their rump. And even though the six-cylinder looks familiar in output, it's not the twin-turbo setup currently offered in the 335i and other models. Instead, it's actually a single-turbo unit that will propel the 535i GT from 0 to 62 mph in a claimed 6.3 seconds and on to a governed 155-mph top speed.

The car arrives in the U. S. later this year, it will be available only in 550i guise at first, expect to pay about $ 65,000 for the privilege of owning one. The 535i will arrive later, likely at a $ 60,000 price point.

BMW did not have on hand for example with the 400-hp, 4.4-liter V-8, but we suspect it will be capable of moving the mail; seconds the company claims that engine will achieve 62 mph in 5.5. Engineers tell us that the 5-series GT V-8 is tuned to sound more quiet and well mannered, as in the 7-series, as opposed to sporty and raucous, as in the X6. Bummer.
